Poverty and Hunger in the Philippines free essay sample

Poverty and Hunger are the most common reasons why there is â€Å"Child Labour† existed not just only in the Philippines, but also in other parts of Asia. Corrupt governance also caused poverty, that’s why there is a need for us to strive harder in order to survive. In reality, many people aren’t lucky to live in a descent and comfortable living. The short documentary bought several lessons to us Filipinos, especially to those teenagers. I was really moved by this documentary. Liza, an 11 year-old girl, is one of the millions of people who suffer at her young age in order to ease the pain of hunger caused by poverty. She picks up plastics, tin cans, wires and other tradable materials in which she would sell them in the junk shop near their village. She goes to school with her destroyed foot ware and with her old bag, notebooks and uniforms which she used when she was still at grade one. She grew up without her father’s company and her mother who does laundry could not afford to send her to school herself alone. That’s why she was also forced to let her daughter do the job to support her studies. Liza, without minding that the surrounding of her work place would cause her illness, still works hard to support her family’s basic commodities and her studies as well. There were millions of Lizas’ who was left unsupported by the local government. They are the ones who should be the focus of the government itself on order to maintain the country’s progressive economy. I can say that I am lucky enough to have parents that would support me throughout my daily life. And I am so amazed with Liza that despite her condition, she is able to become the top student of their class. I am very proud of her. I prayed that someday, God will lift them up to success. And someday, may the Filipinos would have such leaders that would support us and will uplift our country to one of the wealthy nations. And hoping that Filipinos would have discipline, especially in producing numbers of children to avoid them from being a ‘victim’ of great Poverty and Hunger. â€Å"FLOOD† One of the phenomena led by mans’ lack in sense of responsibility is Flood. Major threats are accompanied by these phenomena. One of these is death. Philippines is also devastated by flood which killed thousands of people within thirty minutes. It usually happens during rainy season, from July up to December. Davao also experienced this man-made disaster when flood strikes through the lower lands in Matina Pangi, Matina Aplaya and Bangkal where hundreds of family are left unseen and possibly are dead. But how can we stop this such disaster where in the first place, we’re one of the major reasons why there is this disaster. As what I had seen in the British Film â€Å"FLOOD† by Tony Mitchell, where several people lost their homes, jobs and even their family members. The couple Rob and Sam and other survivors end up in London Underground accompanied by two men named, Bill and Zack. Unfortunately, Bill died because he was stroked by fast moving water. Rob’s father, Mr Leonardo Morrison also survived the incident. When he was bought to the white house, he had suggested activating the barrier in order to stop the raging flood from devastating their home town. Hopkins, felt extremely guilty because she had seen many corpses found on news television and worrying about the loss of her daughters. Finally, they had given Mr Morrison a chance to solve the case. Leonardo quickly responded to the said incident. It was supposed to be his son, but he can’t take it, because he knew that one life must sacrifice in order for millions to survive. He quickly go underwater and his son, Rob wasn’t able to stop him. Leonardo activated the barrier before the missiles were released. After Leonardo exerted all his might, he lost his life because of lack of oxygen underwater. For me, Government must not be blamed for this is a man-made disaster. But the government are ones’ tasked to protect its local communities. Oftentimes we say, that the main causes of this tragic happening are because of lack of responsibility and discipline. But we admit among ourselves, that even us , we don’t segregate our wastes properly because of laziness. We should always kept in mind that as time passes by, most of the people worldwide are continuously lacks of responsibility which results to major damage in our society and environment.
